NHUPA – Design Slam!

NHUPA Design Slam - Task Flow Diagram

Last month’s NHUPA meeting had an interesting format, the “Design Slam” workshop. The basic idea was that a non-profit organization presented goals and needs for a new website (to be designed from scratch, not a redesign). Then we all split into groups to plan and design a specific aspect of the site. We determined our final deliverables based on the skills of our group members and what we thought would be most useful to the client. We only had about and hour to introduce ourselves in our groups, decide upon a deliverable, design it and produce it.

There were 4 groups of 5 people each. Two groups drew homepage wireframes and one group produced a set of audience personas. My group delivered a task flow diagram of the primary audience as well as a basic wireframe of a possible homepage geared toward that main audience. Photos were taken of the event and a document was produced to capture the lessons learned and other takeaways. All in all, it was great to have people from such a wide variety of disciplines working toward a common goal.
